WEP encryption and IP address problem

Hi, I am using a Dell 1184 router and a Dell 1180 USB
adapter on an HP computer with XP ( I just upgraded from
ME). I have no problems with my wireless network until I
try to enable WEP. Once WEP is enabled, the IP address
changes on the HP and I can't connect even though I am
receiving a strong signal. I am having no trouble with
the host computer and a Toshiba laptop which works with
WEP or without. I cannot repair the connection or ping.
I have tried releasing and renewing but that hasn't
worked. The IP address switches to one that starts with
169 and then switches back to the correct 192 when I
disable WEP. Any suggestions? Can I force the correct
IP address, if so, how?

I have the same problem. I am running a different configuration, though. I have a network of three machines: a desktop and two notebooks. I have issues with one of the notebooks, the one that is running XP (home edition, with SP1). If the WEP is not enabled, everything works fine with all the machines. Once I turn on the WEP (either 64 or 128 bit), the XP notebook doesn't work. I do set the same keys as for the other notebook. The simptoms are similar with the ones annapy described.
