By default Windows XP will display the number of Unread e-mail
messages on the Welcome Screen under each account name (for Outlook
and Outlook Express).
The default setting is 3 days. This means that all messages not marked
as Read in the last 3 days will be counted and the total displayed
under the users login name.

1) Go to Start => Run and type in "regedit" {without the quotes} and
click on OK.

2) Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

3) Look for a key named:

MessageExpiryDays

Double-click on this and change (Edit) the value from 3 to 0

4) Close the registry editor, and log off and back on again, or
restart.

.................

If the MessageExpiryDays key doesn't exist, you can create it
manually:

1) Navigate to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

2) Go to Edit => New => DWORD Value, and type in:

MessageExpiryDays for the Value Name.

3) Enter the Value as 0 {that's a zero}.

4) Close the registry editor, and log off and back on again, or
restart.

The Value you set is the number of days of unread mail that will be
reported.

Open a run command and type in:
Regedit.exe click [OK]

Edit these keys:
HKEK_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
set the value MessageExpiryDays to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
set the value MessageExpiryDays to 0
Close the Registry editor and reboot.

Navigate to the following key in the registry if you want to delete an email
address that is not your:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail]

Right-click on the Email address that is not yours to select "Delete".
