On my Welcome Screen, I can see a message stating that I have 3 unread
messages against my user sign on, when there are no unread messages in
Outlook or any other email program on this computer.
How can I correct this, please?
Hi Nigel,
= Overview of Mail Notification Display on WinXP Welcome Screen [Q304148]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304148
= Download the tweaki:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/default.mspx
= Line 100 - Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
= Open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe click [OK]
On the Registry editor locate these keys and make the changes ( note back up
your registry before editing them, editing the Registry the wrong way can
render your system useless):
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail = In
the right Pane/Window modify this entry value to Zero: "MessageExpiryDays"
Change the value to 0.
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\<Your
E-Mail Address> = In the right Pane/Window modify this entry value to Zero:
"Message Count" Change the value to 0.
= Note that this alert about you have unread message it doesn't indicate
that you have Unread messages in Outlook/Outlook express, but it could be an
alert for MSN Hotmail or Messenger if you have these services running.
HTH.
