Using XP Pro w/SP2, automatic Windows Updates turned ON. My welcome screen
frequently reports unread email messages when there are NONE. Is there a way
to correct this? TIA, Jim

Download TweakUI from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).

To disable unread mail notification:
Click "Logon" > Unread mail > uncheck ""Show unread mail on Welcome Screen"

To reset the unread mails count:
Select "Repair" > Repair Unread Mail Count and click "Repair Now"
