Welcome Screen

I have a second computer at home running Windows XP. My kids use it. There
are two users on the Welcome screen. When the password is entered on either,
the screen briefly flashes with their background but then says "logging off".
So we're dead in the water. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

Try a System Restore from Safe Mode, back to a point before the problem
started.

I have the same problem. When I go to safe mode the pc does the same thing.
It brings up a large print welcome page with a partial listing of users and
then when I try to log on it quickly logs back off. Help please. I can't
get to a start button. Can you start up without going through the welcome
screen?
