I have xp professional and I can't get the welcome screen to come up at all.
It boots right into my desktop even when I have checked the box in the
control panel to load the welcome page. I have two accounts...one is set up
as the administrator and the other is limited...but it boots into the
administrator profile without going to the welcome screen first...I want my
kids to be able to choose their profile without being able to get into
mine...HELP PLEASE!!!

Did you, or anyone else using this system, make changes that allow for
automatic logon? With two accounts and using default settings, XP should
stop at the welcome screen so that an account can be selected for logon.

Suggestions:
-If the administrator account was the original account that is named
"Administrator" then it becomes hidden (removed from the welcome screen)
when another user account is created. An excellent account to keep "in
reserve" for troubleshooting purposes. This would explain an unexpected
autologon situation too.

Solution: Create a second account in the administrator group for every day
administrative tasks. This account will appear on the welcome screen and XP
will pause at welcome screen so that user can select an account for logging
on.

-Assign a password to any of the existing user accounts.

-Check Start> Run: type control userpasswords2 and click OK. On the screen
that appears, check the box that requires a password.

-If using TweakUI or similar software, check settings where auto logon can
be setup. If enabled, disable the feature.
