I use this PC normally, but I'm trying to set up my Compaq Presario 1200 with XP. Since I don't have internet connection on the lap top, I am unable to download any of the prep system files they ask to check for at the microsoft website before yo install. I have no idea if that has anything to do with my problem...but I'd like to know

alright, while I was installing, as soon as it restarted a second time, and it got to the actual installation process, it just stopped and gave me an error message

The parameter is incorec

after pressing ok I got this

"Error
Cannot load C:/Windows/System/QTW16.CPL Error:31 [Error=31] (1FH

I dunno if this means anything...but I did run that check, but since there was no internet connection, I clicked "No, continue installing windows" and it just scanned and told me what was incompaitble. what am I supposed to do with the things that are incompatible? ahh, I dunno if that's what's keeping it from continuing, I just wanna fix this damn thing,it's frustrating

Disconnect all hardware except mouse , keyboard and monitor prior to XP
install. What did it tell you that was incompatible ? Jym

There is a file you can down load, on another pc, and burn to a CD to check
your laptop compatibility.
Sounds like it is not very compatible, which is not surprising for an older
laptop.
Most likely a lot of hardware incompatibility for which you can not do much
to fix with a laptop.
I suspect that Windows 98, or ME, is about as high as you will be able to go
with the hardware you have.
What is the brand and model number of the computer?
