I recently got the Windows XP home upgrade for my computer
which is currently running Windows ME. After about 90
minutes of "preparing to install", the computer restarted
itself and continued to install. After about a minute an
error message stated that setup could not continue due to
an error. These are the details of that message:
Error:
Cannot load C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTW16.CPL ERROR:31 [ERROR=31
(1Fh)]
Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax Error in manifest or policy
file "C:\$WIN_NT$~LS\1386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL\VCRTL.MAN"
on line 11
Error: Installation Failed: C:\$WIN-NT$~LS\1386\asms
Error Message: A component's file does not match the
verification information present in the component manifest
Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to
continue setup could not be installed.
A component's file does not match the verification
information present in the component manifest

That's it. I've tried to install the upgrade twice with
the same results. If anyone has any advice I would be very
grateful.
