weird net problem

Hi.
I have been having a really frustrating time trying to figure out an issue
with my PC. Basically I am able to connect to the internet and usenet but
all my other apps except for 1 game (MOH) do not connect. At first I
checked to see if it was a firewall issue, although I had setup my firewall
before to allow outband packets. I of course had another PC, which I
connected to my DSL and it did not have this issue. So I thought maybe
there might be some type of software conflict. I have uninstalled some
suspect apps and that did not seem to solve it either. I checked winsock
properties and they seemed fine. I've scanned for malicious programs and
did not find anything. At this point I am a click away from
repair/reinstall. I really do not want to reinstall WinXP since I have a
ton of apps that I would need to reinstall and reconfigure. Is there
anything else left for me to check?
The weird part of this is some apps like my browsers and newsgroup client
connect perfectly including 1 of my games but everything else does not. If
it was all down then It would be understandable but this does not make any
sense to me.

Disconnect from the internet, and just connect to usenet.

Which games? Tell us which one works and which one doesn't. Are you
trying to host games or just join a game?

Only thing I can come up with at this point is that some software is
missing your Default Gateway options... Is that possible?
