Weird Ie6 fault - no disk space for temporary files

Hi folks,

Here is a weird fault I've discovered in my IE6 sp1 on my XP pro PC.

Web pages were taking an age to download and then IE6 would crash.

I discovered that the disk space setting for the Temporary Internet
files folder is set to zero! And if I try to move the slider to set a
higher value it claims there is not enough disk space on that drive.
(e:\temp). I've got 30GB+ free!

I did a chkdsk e: /f and on C: on reboot, this made no difference.

If I try to change to another location, I get a error window telling me
that, that location doesn't have enough disk space! So no matter what
drive I try it claims none of them have disk space on them. Not even my
100GB mirror array!

Any idea how I can correct this problem?

I tried the add/remove windows programs in Control panel to remove IE6
and then readded it. But it still thinks I've got no disk space.
I'd really appreicate any help or pointers.

What does system information say for 'page file space'. What do you see
under components, storage, drives? Does the free space show up there?

Yes.

For some bizarre reason my paging file was set to 'No paging file'.

But it showed a 900MB fixed sized file in the wee window above it as
I'd previously set up a paging file in my E: drive.

I had to reset this option a couple of times to get it unconfused.

But I've now left it at 'System managed size' for now and for the last
5 mins IE6 is now allowing me to set a 'Temporary Internet file area'
of a size of my liking!

:))

Well done Ed for the pointer!

Though why a 1GB RAM PC with no paging file would cause IE6 to play up
is beyond me.

Stupid programming by Microsoft IMHO.
