Weird Hardware Issue (DVDBurner) would like advice.

Deal All,

I have two DVD Burners in my system, but when I use one of them, randomly,
sometimes begining, sometimes end of a burn, the machine shuts off? no
shutdown, no warning, just turns off..Seems to be when I'm burning at max
speed.

When I press the power on button, the machine beeps at me, 3 long beeps. If
I hold the power button the machines appears to turn off, but there is still
aparant power to the machine, as my 7 in 1 card reader is still lit.

It takes for me to remove the power cable, wait a few seconds, plug back in,
and machine starts up fine. I've tried uninstalling to allow for the machine
to re-detect it, I've checked a few system settings, but I'm stumped.

I've checked in the bios, and the PSU is apparanlty providing the correct
voltages, but I'm thinking is might be to do with PSU? But I don't get any
other problems with my system, no other HDD errors, etc.

Can anybody give me ant other tips or things I can do to try to fix the
problem (if it is fixable) before I opt for a re-install and/or buy new
burner.

Regards
Paul.

The 3 long beeps you're getting are BIOS dependent - so you should read the
manual or check the motherboard manufacturer's web site for info on beeps. A
Google search may help if you know who made the BIOS.

Is the PSU rated high enough considering all the stuff you have plugged into
it? Add up the power requirements for all items and see what the load is.

I looked up the three beeps, it is telling me it is a RAM issue, I will have
to take em out and reseat them, also I'll run a memchecker on it, but it
still puzzles me as to why it only happens when I use the particular DVD
Burner, and doesn't affect when I'm doing anything else?

Also, my PSU is 550w, which for the past 2 years has been ample for my
needs...
