Weird Error Message?

I have Norton 360 on my laptop as it's the only Norton compatible with Vista.
It was having some issue connecting to it's Live Update so I uninstalled
Norton 360 and then planned on reinstalling it. However when I uninstalled it
my internet wouldn't connect. I checked the firewall settings, the defender
settings, checked all the tech pages and nothing worked. So I did a system
restore from 2 days ago, worked like a charm, I could get on the internet
fine. Well then I went to reinstall Norton 360 and it said it couldn't
install as a previous version was already installed. I went to the uninstall
programs list and sure enough it was there, however it wasn't, if that makes
any sense. I mean the program files weren't there, I couldn't run Norton 360
the program. It just listed it in my installed programs list. So I clicked
uninstall and got this error message "The specified module could not be
found". My guess is that after I uninstalled 360 then did a system restore it
put some of the 360 files back on my computer. Not enough that I had the
program, but enough to make my computer think I had it. So now I'm in a catch
22 I can't install Norton 360 because I need to uninstall it and I can't
uninstall it because it's not technically there. I called Norton's help line
and they said it was a Vista issue :( I've been scouring Google but I can't
find a way to resolve this. Anyone have any suggestions to wipe it completely
off my computer so it doesn't show in my installed programs list?

Welcome to the world of Norton/Symantec. You cannot eliminate Norton security
software completely unless you do a clean install of your OS. You can
uninstall the software from the start menu or the add/remove programs but you
will still have to remove the entries (Norton and Symantec) from your program
files and all listings in your registry. You will also have to go to
services.msc and remove the Symantec entry there. Once you uninstall all
these entries you will still have to run the "Norton Removal Tool", which
will not eliminate all traces of the software. It will still be recognized by
Windows Security Center as "running".
This is one of the reasons I refuse to install any Norton software on my
system in the future. The other reason is the absolute terrible technical
support I received from Norton. Norton/Symantec will tell you that their
software is compatible with Vista but it is not. Norton/Symantec will tell
you that the problem is with the Vista operating system but it is not. My
advice, based upon my own personal experiences with several of their software
applications, would be to do a clean install of your operating system and
never download anything from Norton again.
I am not trashing Norton/Symantec. I have installed Norton Internet Security
Suite 2007, which proved to be incompatible with my Vista Home Premium and
Vista Ultimate. I have installed Norton 360 and found that software to be
incompatible with Vista also.
I was also informed by Norton, on many occasions, that the problem is the
Vista OS. However, you can find many security software applications that work
perfectly fine with Vista. This is an indication that Norton is indeed
incompatible with Vista. I can come to no other conclusions regarding the
matter.
Again, everything I am telling you about Norton is based upon my personal
experiences with their software and my personal experiences with the
technical support staff.
