What happens when you want to uninstall NORTON 360 from Vista....

I was going to uninstall Norton 360 from my Vista, as it had slowed down my
OS ,
particularly WIE, and when I started to uninstall Norton - this
interesting and
"consumer friendly" by Norton's standard - appear on my screen. I could
not
believe to my eyes.

=========================
Norton 360 Setup
Subscription Period Warning

Warning: You still have 331 day(s) left in you Norton 360 subscription. If
you continue to uninstall you might lose the reminder of your subscription.

About the subscription reminder alert
This is an informational message only. It advises you that if you uninstall
Norton 360 and you do not reinstall it on the same day, your subscription
period continues to count down.

Example: You have 325 days left on your subscription, and you uninstall
Norton 360. Three days later you reinstall Norton 360. After you reinstall,
322 days remain on your subscription.

The time that remains on your subscription continues to decrease if there is
a delay between uninstalling and reinstalling. We recommend that you do not
uninstall Norton 360 unless it is absolutely necessary.
If you do need to uninstall Norton 360, reinstall it as soon as possible.

Note : Before you uninstall Norton 360, make sure that you have a copy of
your product key. See the section, "How to find the product key."

I used Norton from very early years. There were Ups and down, but this
piece of Norton's PR policy - took me be surprise. Perhaps we have
to check the legality of this "Norton's rule".

Norton is junk, has been for a few years now. So you think it would make
more sense that they allow you to uninstall it, reinstall it 5 years later,
and resume your subscription, which would require them to give you a product
update for free for your new OS? Don't know if I agree with that.

Don't stretch your imagination too far...-;)
There are "325 days left on your subscription", so it that time
I should have by any standard, right - to install software
I've bought, whenever I want (on 3 PCs as it says on the package).
Above all, in this case it's a matter of principle.

I'd have to say that the best way to uninstall any Norton product is to
format the hard drive(s).

I'd agree with your advice entirely. I remember my troubles with
Symantec Internet Security last year I had. In the end I had to
reformat hard drive and reinstall Win XP.

Norton is crap; but you bought 12 months CONTINUOUS subscription to it, not
to put it on whenever you feel like it.
What do you want to do, put it on when you get a virus, and make it last you
20 years.
Wake up, get a life.

What do you want to do,

It's a matter of principle. I purchased it when I shouldn't. BUT...
I want to uninstall it when I wanted and reuse it when I wanted,
within the time of my license. Norton 360 was installed on 1 of May.
So - still I should have a right to use it if I wanted - before the May
2008.
Because until May 208 this product is legally mine.

Not without using the tools that Norton provide to clean up! <g>

I uninstalled the Public Beta and installed the trial version of Norton
360 then uninstalled that when the 30 day trial ended since I found it
had to many "system tools" that I don't want -- Norton SystemWorks on
steroids.

I had no problem uninstalling it and no problems since -- I'm using
NIS2007 instead which I've used before and still do in XP.

You do have just exactly that right -- the right to install up to 3
copies at any time during the 365 day period, starting on the first day
you begin to use it.

That continual countdown is not new for Norton 360 -- it's in NIS 2007
as I found having bought the 3 user version and then each later
installation under XP, VISTA and XP Home had the same expiry date.

It's annoying but they do tell you about it on the website.

Surely, the formatting of HDD should clean up any Norton's residue
from your system.
