Is there a FREE website maker program that is NOT a trial
that I can make halfway decent looking web pages with?

All the office programs can. Outlook Express can (copy html source text from OE to a new file).

Word, excel, access, and powerpoint certainly are wysiwyg html editing..

You didn't say how skilled you are. If you aren't skilled and want
wysiwyg, then I find Mozilla's Composer module to be very easy and
fills the bill nicely for me, anyway.

I don't agree, David.

Frontpage - Dreamweaver - NetObjects et al, are wysiwyg editors.

Best wishes,

Ed

Doesn't matter if you agree or not. They are. I hand code and only use notepad.

I build computers etc., but I have never done much with
web pages.

Office is designed for non experts to save their docs as web pages. It's horribley inefficient but quicker than learning to be an expert. It allows everyone in a company to put files on the intranet. Including spreadsheets.

I guess it's a case of how you understand wysiwyg. Typing directly into a
table created for you and inserting a graphic into the page you are looking
at and hitting 'Preview' is considerably different to typing html, which
millions don't know anyway.

Kind regards,

Ed

I have no problem with that... But NOT wysiwyg!

Get into your head that all office apps save as html without coding.

Here's html generated by Word (without the pics).
