Website won't update

I am taking over a website that I believe was maintained with Front Page
2003. I only have Front Page 2000. I have made changes and updated the
site. When I try to publish, it appears to go smoothly, but when I check the
site, no changes have been made. Do I need to somehow take down the old site
before publishing my new pages?

Did you do a Refresh?
Clear you cache?
and...
Maybe you're server caches changes...I'd wait a while and check before doing anything radical.

Do a FULL publish, not just changed pages only, in order to get back in
synch since you are using a different FP version.

I tried that, but nothing changed. I am wondering if I did something wrong
when I imported the original web pages. Would that make a difference?

it certainly could. How did you "import" the pages?

ContentSeed: great tool for web masters,
a fantastic convenience for site owners.

The prior site person emailed me all the pages and I saved them onto my
computer in a folder. I then imported those saved pages into Front Page. I
didn't use the import wizard and import them from the web, which may be the
problem.

In this case you would have to open the live/remote site and delete all of the content from within
FP, if the remote site has the FP extensions. If the extensions are installed then open the site
directly in FP via File Menu | Open Site, then delete all content, with the exception of the images
and _private folders, however delete all content within these two folders.

what if his local imported copy is not complete though...
maybe he should Publish down to a new webname first?

T

Good point, but he then would need to make all of his change in this newly downloaded copy.

Okay, so I need to delete all of the old content from within FP, then
download the site to a new webname, then redo my changes. Is that correct?

Correct.

And make sure you name you home page filename the same as the current one on the hosted site
