Getting a Headache

I just purchased a new computer with windows xp on it.
When I go to view many online webpages, the page itself
does not fully cover the viewing area of the browser. My
other two computers, both using windows 98, sizes the
webpage to cover the full viewing area (and also as a
result shows webpages in a much larger format/font &
pictures). For instance, when I call up msn.com, the
webpage is small and only takes up the left 2/3 or 3/4 of
the browser viewing area, leaving a blank blue area on
the right side. The exact same page viewed on the same
browser on a computer with Win 98 takes up the entire
viewing area space and the fonts and pictures are
larger. Why is this so and is there any way to change
it? I would love the webpages to display on the full
viewing area so I could read them easier!
Any suggestions?? The tech at Dell I spoke to did not
seem to have a clue what I was talking about.

Are you using the same resolution on both systems? Most web pages are
optimized for a certain resolution like 800x600. Viewing the web page at
that resolution should fill the entire screen, which is what the web site
author intended. If you are using a higher resolution of say 1024x768, then
the view will be a larger area, which means that everything on the web page
will appear smaller.
