Font changes from design to display in browser

I created my website using a standard font, lucida calligraphy, as the
default. When I view my site in my browser, the font shows up as times new
roman. This happens on the computer I use for FrontPage 2003 at work, and
also on my home computer.

I know I can change the default font on my browser, and it says there "the
fonts you select here are displayed on Web pages and documents that do not
have a specified text font." Well, my website does have a specified text
font, and that is lucida calligraphy. Why doesn't it show up that way in my
browser?

When I do change the font to lucida calligraphy in my tools, fonts area of
my browser, I get a bunch of lucida calligraphy fonts mixed in with normal
looking fonts on the various webpages. I don't want to have my browser set
to that. Plus I don't want to have to ask everyone who views my website to
change their browser settings so my site shows to them as I intended it.

Have you actually applied the font to your text using the font menu or via CSS?

Also each users viewing your site must have your font installed to see your text in that font.

Yes, the font was applied when I created the website, and shows up correctly
in my FrontPage program. I know the viewers must have the font installed in
order to see it correctly, that's why I used a standard font like lucida
calligraphy. That font is installed on both of my computers but when I view

In FrontPage design mode, I right clicked in my page and selected 'font',
then selected lucida calligraphy (serif) and clicked 'ok'. When I type the
text, it shows up in the lucida calligraphy font.

No. I set the font before I started typing the text. I also set the default

You must highlight the font, as was pointed out to you in a previous reply,
or use CSS.

The default font is misleading. It shows you what the page would look like
if you were using the font. It doesn't actually use the font on the web.

Most viewers will never see the lucida calligraphy font. It is not a
"standard" font.

It may be standard, but it's certainly not websafe.

Lucida is not a standard font. The Lucida Sans font family and Lucida
Console are included with Windows XP Service Pack 2. That means that most
people who don't have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed (or running
Windows XP) won't see this. There are very few fonts available that are safe
for the web. They may be boring and not provide your page with the intended
look, but you have to play with the cards that are dealt to the other
people. All web developers are essentially in the same boat when it comes to
fonts.
