web site persistence in Address Bar with AutoComplete On

Good day! There are web addresses that will not go away in the Address Bar
when AutoComplete is on. Simple answer: turn off AutoComplete- addresses go
away. But wife wants AutoComplete on to monitor kids' site visits. I have
tried all the usual Tools menu options, done some research in various books-
to no avail. Clearing History/Forms/Passwords does not solve problem. Could
these addresses be embedded in the Registry, thus requiring editing to remove
them from AutoComplete? Is there some way to remove these site addresses from
Address Bar & still have AutoComplete on?

Thanks!

Update: Looked at TypedURLs key in RegEdit- only entry there is "default"- no
entries for anything else- so where are these items in Address Bar coming
from?
We do run anti-virus/spyware etc.

Most perplexing. Surely there's a way to remedy this.

Hi,
These URLs you're seeing are in the index.dat file in the History folder. To
delete these URLs, you need to delete the index.dat file. It's generally
recommended to delete the History folder, which will also delete it's
index.dat file.

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm can usually delete
the History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created
when you restart.

Or the History folder can be deleted manually.
The procedure [Windows XP]
Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can
see hidden and system files (Folder Options> View) then delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and
Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\History] Restart the computer.

Hope this helps,
