Web Browser Problems

JLS

I've ran into a new problem with my broadband connection
that occurs no matter which browser I use. Just about
any web page I visit displays fine, -except- search
engines. Google will not display at all, while I can
visit any other search engines main page but when I try
to do a search I get "Page Cannot Be Displayed". Norton
2004 is up to date and came up clean, same with Spybot.
The pages display fine on my second computer, which is on
the same router. I can't for the life of me figure out
what this is, please help!

Thanks

Hi,

It sounds like you've been infected with the Trojan.Qhost bug.
The new Qhosts bug exploits the unpatched residual vulnerability in
MS03-032.

Information regarding this can be found here.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100719.htm and
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html

The removal tool for this trojan is available here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.removal.tool.html

The bug sets all search values to google. You may wish to change your
configuration on your Internet
Explorer search settings as desired, if you don't want google.

To prevent this exploit, install the critical update described by
bulletin MS03-040 and KB828750. To test your browser vulnerability to
this exploit, see http://www.secunia.com/MS03-032/.

There is a new virus, a Trojan horse, that attacks IE. Name: QHosts.
Information regarding this can be found here.

Thank you all! Unfortunately I had only checked out the
SYmantec link before, since I have NAV 2004, but their
removal tool didn't find QHost in normal or safe mode. I
went to McAfee's site and followed their registry edit
instructions and voila, I'm back up. Thanks again!
