WD Expires 12/31?

WD website says "Windows Defender (Beta 2) expires December 31 ". What does
that mean? Will WD still be usable next year? Should I bother to update to
Version 1.1.1593 if it expires in 3 weeks?

Larry;
If you have one of the Beta versions installed, uninstall it and install the
released version.

OK, I can do that. But you didn't answer any of my questions. I'd appreciate
answers for clarification. Thank you.

OK, I upgraded to 1593. Now will you tell me? WD website says "Windows
Defender (Beta 2) expires December 31 ". What does that mean? Will WD v.1593
still be usable next year?

Beta2--i.e. build 1347, if I recall correctly, expires December 31. 1593 is
the released final version code. As far as I know, it has no expiration,
and it includes two support incidents. Windows Defender is released--and
the released version does not expire December 31.

Thank you, Bill.

Bill,

I tried to uninstall my beta version and install 1593, but it doesn't work.
At the end of the install, it asks if you want to update the definition files
and run a quick scan. I have both checked and unchecked that box, and still
no luck. The shortcut on the program menu doesn't work because the
"msascui.exe" file was never installed during the download. What is going on
with the released version? I feel like I'm the only one with this problem
since no one else seems to be complaining. In my post in this newsgroup "WD
doesn't work...HELP!" I was told to run chkdsk /r, but no errors were found
and this wouldn't possibly install an executable that doesn't exist anyway.
What should I do???

After another attempt to get WD to download successfully, I finally got it!!!

Here's what I did:

I did a search for any files that were still lingering on my system after
the unistall and I found files in two places:
C:\Documents and Settings\"User"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft

After deleting those, I disabled McAfee and downloaded WD again. Voila! It
worked!!! I have a feeling that the problem was that McAfee was still
running, but that's just a guess.

Thanks for your help anyway!
