Way to get HDD serial # and activation code from laptop?

I activated my uncle's laptop last year and wrote down the information
for him at the time. I've been twice to my uncle's house and we've
searched for info., but haven't been able to find where he put it <g>.
As I'm organizing his system for him as he's now retired and can use
his laptop more, was wondering how to get that info again? I'd like
to put a label on his Windows XP Pro CD on the leaflet in the CD and
wrute that info on it for him. Then I'd put that in a CD case along
with CDs with the drivers, etc., and other program CDs that he has so
that it's all together. Is there a way to retrieve that info from his
laptop somehow?

Thank you. :blush:D

The only information that he'd need would be the key for the OS. That's
probably on a sticker that's located on the laptop somewhere - usually on
the bottom. If not then:

Please note that the Activation code changes each/every time you do a XP
installation (either a "clean" or "repair" install.)

Really? I didn't know that. That's terrible not to be able to have a
static key <sigh>. Well, then, there's no worries except if in worst
case scenario MS lines of communication were ever down and we needed
to install and no way to get the activation code from them <g>.

No worries then that we can't find it anymore <g>.

You know you can just save that and not have to reactivate?

Thank you so much. That's the type of thing I was looking for, an
easy way for my uncle to reactivate for whatever reason if I'm not
around for whatever reason. I know he'll learn to maintain his system
himself eventually, but right now trying to make life easier for him.

Thanks! :blush:D
