For some reason, OE6 keeps deleting all my watched messages in my subscribed
NG's. Obviously, this doesn't affect anything for the worse, but it's quite
frustrating. Is there any reason (maybe the compacting I have it do when it
reaches 20 percent wasted space) watched messages would be deliberately
cleared, or is this possibly due to some outside influence?

By the way, I am aware that the "Delete news messages x days after being
downloaded" option exists, and no, it's not enabled. Plus, even if it was,
all watched messages are removed simultaneously, instead of whenever the 5
day limit were to apply.

Hi Tony

You may be better off posting your question to an OE News Group.

First off, "Delete messages after..." only deletes downloaded message
bodies, not the headers. Secondly, that option requires Background
Compacting to be enabled, something we don't recommend:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#auto. You should
frequently compact /all/ OE folders manually per
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#compact. Try doing so
now, but first: http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#cleannews.

Keep in mind that OE only "mirrors" what's currently on the newsserver
you're using. Some servers delete messages after only 24 hours, some after
a few days (e.g., five); the MS newssever (msnews.microsoft.com) keeps
messages available for 30+ days.

If a message is deleted from the server, it will be deleted from OE the next
time OE polls the server for new messages. To archive NG posts, Copy them
to Local folders.
