Was running I.E.6

I've been using I.E. 6 for quite awhile, heard that a lot of the future
programs are based on 6 and some things won't be changed. True or not (?)
My problem is, day before yesterday, I turned on the computer and I.E. 6
opened with a white back ground, all of it. No color, the desktop items were
in black boxes and I couldn't even change the back ground color setting.
I don't know what happend overngiht !!
So I tried re-downloading I.E.6 and it automatically takes me to I.E. 8 for
downloading.
Has this happend to anyone else?
