Windows XP With I.E. 7

Using Windows XP & {I.E. 7} went into a "blank stare", meaning everything
turned white in the background and only saw black boxes surrounding each
content. There was no way to adjust the color settings nor any other type of
setting.
McAfee tried helping, re-installed I.E. 7 and there's no such doing.
Now I'm lost. I don't know which to use..version 8 or 7 with XP?
Do they merge well?
Please help.

Viewing the add/remove list, I see I.E. 7 downloaded and with a support note.
When I click on the support, it takes me directly to I.E. 8 page to download.
I've seen in other places where version 7 is available and the same thing
happens.
At this point I'm ready to remove 7 and download 8. Are there things I need
to know prior to doing that also?
(plz forgive me, I'm getting testy with this machine and programs)

You don't need to remove IE7 first. Just download IE8 and run the
downloaded file. It will take care of IE7 for you. However, see my other
reply in a different group here for one thing to try first.
