Can anybody help me with a wallpaper problem in Windows XP Professional?
I designed and successfully used wallpapers in a bitmap format.
When trying a new picture today it would not show any of my wallpapers in
the bitmap format. I tried changing it to a jpeg format and was successful.
Why has it stopped allowing me to use the bitmap format?
Also when I tried switching the position in desktop properties it would not
allow me to do so.

Dear Kelly

Have tried your suggestions and unfortunately they did not work, any other
ideas?

Cheers

How big are the bitmap files? Maybe they are too complex in color
palate or too large >10Meg pixels. Just taking a stab and a guess.
Have you used some new utility to convert or edit them that maybe is not
writing what I want to call the signature part of the file, so XP knows
the filetype? Create one in good ole mspaint.exe See if that works.
I've never had issues, but I don't like bmp files to begin with due to
HD space usage, so I have very few of them to begin with.

All the wallpapers I am trying to use in bitmap format are ones that I have
used before with no problems.

Perhaps if I reinstall Windows XP, what do you think?

A bit overboard. But yes, that might work. Still, I'd make a new
one with mspaint. Files get corrupted. I'd spend 2 minutes before a
reformat for sure!
