Wallpapers in XP

For some reason, when I right-click on my screen, click "properties" and then
click "desktop", there are hundreds of photos available as background
pictures. How can I delete these photos?

Thanks,

Jochen

Windows XP fetches the image files from the following paths:

BMP Files from %Systemroot% (Windows folder)

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:
%Systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures
%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
%Programfiles%\Plus!\Themes

If you want to clear a file from that list, move the file away from the
above locations.

I have the same problem as Jochen but it wasn't that way from the start, all
the files in My Pictures just showed up one day on the background list in
Desktop Properties.

Now, I don't want to delete or remove all the files in My Pictures just
because Windows likes to do this kind of thing. What I would prefer is to
have Windows XP ignore the My Pictures folder and not fetch the files from
there to the background list. Can that be done or am I stuck with trying to
find my actual wallpapers amond piles of useless files? I would appreciate
the help.

Thanks,
Omppu

I think I am having this exact same problem right now!!! i'm not super
computer smart, but i cannot figure out why this happened or how to go back
to just having all the original desktop backgrounds in the Display
Properties>Desktop background list. I know i can get to them through the
C:/WINDOWS/Web folder and set them using right-click, but like Omppu i just
want to be able to go straight in to Display Properties and select from them
only! Please help me if u know a way to fix this problem - it's just irking
me beyond belief!!!! and by the way step by step instructions for me would be
most useful please!!!!!!!! thankyou :)
