Problems with wallpapers

If I go to a website, and right click on an image to set as background, this
applies the image to the background as it should do. However on computer
reboot, or even tidying up the icons (refreshing on the desktop), means that
the background picture disappears replaced by a blue background. When I click
on properties it says I have a modified theme. Only way around this is
applying the Windows XP theme and then going back into properties to select
the picture again. This doesn't happen from saved pictures but from pictures
that are saved as background from the internet. This never used to happen
before. Is there some setting that is out of sync. This isn't a vital problem
but pretty annoying.

Only thing I can think of is that I have had a couple of system recoverys
which has messed up the file structure somewhat, is it pointing the wallpaper
to the wrong folder and losing it when I refresh/reboot?

Hi,

If you right-click the desktop => Properties => Desktop tab => Web tab
is the web image listed? Check the 'Synchronize' button and the box,
'Lock desktop items' and see if it makes a difference.

Well, it brings the picture back. But locks the icons to the screen (the text
beneath them is highlighted in blue and looks terrible). Also cannot arrange
icons, refresh them or anything (as it is locking everything to the desktop).
Unchecking lock desktop items immediately brings blue screen back.

If it's just a picture that doesn't have to be updated, and not a
complete web page, right-click on the picture in the web page and
select 'Save picture as' and save the picture to your computer. If you
save it in Windows\Web\Wallpaper it will be available in Display
Properties => Desktop.

That doesn't solve the problem why it is happening in the first place. Say I
change wallpapers 5 times in a week. I have to save 5 wallpapers, put them in
a folder and then choose them and then delete them when computers memory is
getting full, sounds too convoluted. After locking the items to the desktop
even though I have unchecked this I can no longer move icons around. I used
to get a black bar when I moved them so I can reposition them, now that is no
longer there and I can't put them where I want.
