Desktop Wallpaper Display

I like to change my desktop wallpaper frequently. I scanned a photo I wanted
to use, then went to the Control Panel so that I could browse to my storage
place for the photo. I instantly noticed that, in addition to the XP
wallpapers on the list, all the photos in My Pictures and a subfolder were
also listed.
Oddly, the folder where I keep Desktop Wallpaper photos was NOT one of the
two folders whose contents were listed.
They were not there 5 days ago and I do not want them there.
I checked Windows/System to see if they had miraculously been moved there,
but they had not.
I cannot figure out why they are now showing on the list. If I knew why
they suddenly appeared, maybe I could remove them.
Any suggestions?
