W2KSP4_IT Deployment via GPO

Renato Massone

I'm trying to deploy the Italian version of Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
using GPO in a Windows 2000 based domain.

I've read all the stuff at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/spdeploy.htm
and everything seems to run fine till the moment I add the W2KSP4_IT
update.msi package to my GPO.
It seems it is from the English edition of the SP4. I get that 4-digit code,
mentioned on the spdeploy.htm article, that identify the language of the
product: it is 1033.

If I try to deploy the SP4 on my PCs, I get an error saying that a required
product is missing.

Anybody has seen anything like this?

I'll try again with other localized versions of the SP4 to see if it's only
the Italian version to fail and will post my results.

Thanks for any suggestion.

Bye

Deeper testing revealed that update.msi has the wrong language ID in some
SP4 versions as follows:
W2KSP4_EN 1033
W2KSP4_DE 1031
W2KSP4_ES 1033 (should be 3082)
W2KSP4_FR 1036
W2KSP4_IT 1033 (should be 1040)
W2KSP4_NL 1033 (should be 1043)

The expected 4-digit codes are described on the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305134

No matter what code is added to the SP4 name when I add the package to my
GPO, the language is always indicated as English.

I do not have tried yet to actually deploy the SP4 via GPO to any version of
Windows 2000 since I only own the Italian and the English versions, but I'd
like some feedback on this issue as it seems to affect more versions of the
SP4 than the Italian one.

As soon as I find a localized edition fo Windows 2000, I will try again to
deploy the SP4 via GPO and post more info.

Thanks
