hi there,

i am going to format my hardrive and do a clean
installation on W2K Pro using the CD-ROM. however i
notice that there are Service Pack 3 for it. therefore i
would like to know;

1. Should i install the Service Pack 3 right after
completed installing the W2K Pro or after i installed all
the application like IE 5.5, Office 2000, ICQ, Winamp, etc?

you help will be appreciated.

thank you.

"Take my opinion, I'm not using it" would be my typical
answer but in this instance, I do use it.

Get the OS installed & get IE updated, then install the
latest SP. After that I would begin installing other
apps, MSO, ICQ, WAmp, etc. I typically get all of
the "base" installed & then perform the SP installs.
This routine has been the most successful for me. Also,
when you are at v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, at the
top of the screen is the link for the MSO updates. It's
a handy link. You can DL the full SPs for W2K and MSO
and save them on a CD or DVD for future use also. It can
save time when performing a reinstallation of the
software. It would be nice if you didn't have to do
these reinstallations but, MS OSs are better now than
they were 10 yrs ago so.... I suppose I shouldn't
complain.
