W2000 Login Error

I am unable to login in Windows on my laptop and it gives
me an error message 'The system could not log you on. Make
sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your
password again....'. I had been using it fine for days
until I shut it down and restarted an hour and a half
later.

I work out of home and use a Dell Latitude laptop (Windows
2000 Professional) to connect to my company network.
Normally I have to start it locally and then connect to
the company network and domain through DSL. I have
contacted the IT department and they want me to send the
laptop to them or bring it to their nearest office which
is 350 miles away to get it fixed. Either way I would be
losing so much time that I cannot afford.

Is there any quick way to get this fixed? Any suggestions
are appreciated.
