Volume control help please

Windows XP SP2, Microsoft Beta Antispyware,

I have place volume icon in the taskbar checked within the volume control however it keeps disappearing when I reboot. So I have to put it back on. I do have three antivirus software's running one firewall and two spyware blockers running all at the same time. Could it be that it is there but I can not see it. If so how can I adjust the tray in order to see all items?

Rightclick Start>Properties>Taskbar tab>Customize button
You'll have three choices for the icons on the taskbar
Hide when inactive, Always show, Always hide
Click OK when finished.
