Vodoo graphics card

I have a voodoo graphics card that I had on my old win-98 machine which is
all that I need for things like 3-d apps and gaming. When I got my new
machine with Win-xp, the card isn't being recognized by the setup as a
workable piece of hardware. How might I get this perfectly good piece of
legacy hardware to work with XP?

Being different OS's, I'd make sure you have XP drivers.
XP does come with a lot and is pretty good on legacy hardware, but the
card vendor might have some better drivers you can install and then try
to do the 'find new hardware' thing again.

At the risk of giving insult, you install drivers for it. I'm a little
surprised that Microsoft didn't include any, even though 3dfx went out of
business (in 2000) before XP went retail.

I suggest:

I doubt that any of the XP compatible drivers are official releases. They
may still work for you, though.

Which 3dfx based card are you trying to use?

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

If you can't find an XP driver, try a Win2k driver, should work.

Google search "3dfx xp drivers" comes up with a good list.

Win98 was also good in its day, just like many other things were good in
there day, the problems come when you try to use hw designed for a differnt
era in a modern environment.
Its also quite likely that the onboard graphics are superior to the card

Voodoo has been closed for years. No newer "drivers" and no
development ever. Newer video card have better drivers and are being
actively developed.

Anyone familiar with the Voodoo line knows they're not in business any more,
that doesn't mean the cards are useless, there are fans of the card still
using them, stable XP drivers are available.

These are not "offical" drivers and you only get "patched" drivers.
The cards were developed for Windows (98 and never official for XP.
Drivers that come from other places that the original manufacturer
should never be ever consider as "complete" and secure.
