Is it possible to use VLA license keys with OEM install disks or Technet
install disks? If I install the eval verstion of the software and try to
reregister the software using the VLA key, is there a procedure?

NO! The OEM install disks kabe different software controls (for the Product
Activation) which the VLA install disk do not!

Do not mix Retail/OEM/VLA keys/medias as each are different.

Why must this be so hard!

No.

Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of
CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are
purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for
any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and
vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full
version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to
install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not work with
an English CD. No retail Product Key will work with a Volume Licensed
installation, and vice versa. Bottom line: Product Keys and CDs
cannot be mixed & matched. You have to have the specific type of
installation CD for which that license and Product Key was designed.

What's "so hard" about keeping installation CDs and their
respective Product Keys sorted out?

The so hard part is:
If I install a product i.e. Windows server 2003 or Windows XP Pro from the
evaluation disks in the Technet kit which I have a paid subscirption. I have
installed this on a platform for which I am not sure I am going to put into
production. I decide that I am going to put it into production. I wanted to
know if there is a way to convert the 180 day evalution license to either a
retail or VLA. The University I work for has a VLA. I tend to set up alot
of research platforms which some get put into production, some don't. I
really would like a way to convert the license to VLA insead of reinstalling
the OS.
