How to change the Volume Licensing product key on a Windows XP image

N

Nigel Bruce

I have an Win XP image with lots of applications. All run ok but this is
running on Windows with a OEM license.

Have just purchased a legit VLA for XP upgrade and I was wondering (well
praying) that instead of building a another PC from the ground upwards using
this VLA if there was a way of transferring the VLA licence key to the PC
with the OEM Licence?

We update our image quite regular and the 30 days has expired on the old PC.

Any help would be much appreciated and if it can be done it would save me
hours of extra work

Hope this makes sense?

Many thanks

No. Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of
CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are
purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for any
retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and vice
versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full version CD,
and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to install a retail
product. An Italian Product Key will not work with an English CD.
Bottom line: Product Keys and CD/license types cannot be mixed & matched.
