Vista wont start or boot

Just abt 6 mnths ago i bought an Acer Intel Pentium D with 447 mb RAM & 140
GB...but just this past week everytime i switch the computer off it doesnt
come back on !!!! it doesnt start or boot...The monitor is just
black.......im even scared to switch it off in case it never comes back on !!

NOTHING on the monitor at all? Do you hear any fans running in the
case? Does the power light come on? Does the light that indicates
hard drive activity flicker?

If the monitor never stays black but you can answer "yes" to the other
questions, then it's your monitor.

If the monitor stays black and you see/hear no other signs of
activity, hope that it's a power supply burn out because that's the
simplest thing to fix.

You can try running a Startup Repair to see if it can fix the boot
problem. This tutorial will show you how to.

That would be quite hard to do with a black monitor screen.

Many thanks and kudos to Brink. He/she saved me many bucks and eliminated
the need to lose my machine to a repair shop for many days.

I had the same problem as Noah, with my laptop obviously not accessing the
CPROM. The advice to reset the CMOS jumper was the key.

I took out the cell battery after unscrewing a panel on the bottom of the
laptop, replaced it and fired the machine up again. Everything worked
normally and has been ever since.
