action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel"

set association control paneld does not even exist in media player,

well, do what it says and create a file association for the file type. or
there just might be an error with the file and it may be associated with
another program for some odd reason and you just may need to fix the
defaults with the file associations within vista. fixing and changing the
file associations is very easy.

Go to Control Panel (Classic view) > Default Programs > "Set your default
programs" link > highlight Windows Media Player and press the first green arrow
(or choose the bottom green arrow to choose particular associations.
