Hardly, and here's why:
Expense: Vista = up to almost $500, most Linux is free
Requirements: Vista = at least a semi-modern PC, Linux can run on ancient
hardware.
Reputation: Vista=Microsoft=bad rep for many, many people.
Linux=community=good rep for these people.
Capabilities: Vista= pretty darn good, Linux= almost equally good for the
average user.
Vulnerability to stupid or uniformed/inexperienced users shooting themselves
in the foot by doing dumbass things on the internet or via email: Vista=don't
know yet, might be great might not be. Linux= almost 100% userproof.
Modern Linux is more than capable to do, and do well, what 90% of the
world's users need to do on a PC. It is never going away.
