vista upgrade

i've recently bought a mce laptop which qualifies for a vista upgrade.
however its only got 512mg of memory and so i'll only be able to get the
basic version. however if i upgrade the memory to 1gb does anyone know
whether this will then allow me to upgrade to the premium edition.

You need to ask the laptop manufacturer. There are two issues here:
1. What edition of Vista is practical with 1 gig vs. 512 meg.
2. What are the terms of the Vista upgrade offered by *the laptop
Manufacturer*.

The manufacturers have a lot of latitiude in leveraging the coupon program.
Some provide choices for additional costs, so the only way to know is to ask
the mfg.

512 MB is enough if the video supports WDDM driver model. It won't be as
fast as 1 GB, though.
