Vista update failures

Ever since i got my new rig with Vista Home Premium, i have alwasys had
issues with the auto updates. 3rd party updates (like Nvidia) have never
worked, MS updates have been more or less succesful (multiple attempts).
Recently, the updates have always failed - there are 7 or so MS updates for
vista available, and every single one has failed. the update process would
dl the updates up to 11%, then create a restore point, then attempt to
install, then fail. usually i get a 8007000B error. i have looked online
for answers, to no avail.
can anyone PLEASE help?
the only thing i remember doing to my rig was update my video and mobo
drivers (nvidia) and update my bios. i regularly do a reg clean and defrag
my drives.

prolly doesnt matter, but my system specs are:
intel core 2 quad core
asus striker extreme mobo
4 gigs ram
2 x geforce 8800gts 640mb in SLI
2 x seagate drives in raid 0 mirror
etc etc

Hi Zakspeed,

If you refer to my post 'Updating Windows Vista' in the newsgroup 'Windows
Update' (dated 10/10/2007), you should be able to solve your problem. Please
note that I (and several others) recommend, in numerous posts across the
newsgroups, that you only obtain 3rd party updates and drivers (ie,
non-Microsoft) directly from the manufacturer's website and not from
Microsoft themselves, Nvidia being one such example.

Microsoft offers free email support for upgrade failures. Go to support at the Microsoft
web site. I've used it a couple of times and its great!

Thanx Rick! Update works now after i took your advice, although imp't
updates only install one at a time requiring reboot each time, but heck i am
happy that it works!
