Although I'd like help your message is too general of a post to help

Here are a few suggestions that make it sure you get the best answer to your
question as quickly as possible:

1. Search for your question on Google or other search tools -- it's likely
someone may have already answered your question, and you won't have to waste
time waiting for it to be answered again

2. Make sure your title summarizes the specific problem you have -- A
question with a title of "Urgent! Help needed!" is not as likely to get
answered as a question with a title of "How to configure my firewall to open
port 80". A more specific, detailed title is far more likely to get a
better response than a general one.

3. Give details about your problem -- rather than " It won't work, please
help", provide some details like Error Codes, statements like, "Program
starts, it get's to a part to install xxx and 2/3rds of the way and then
does this.", Screen Shots and images also help. Also search for any error
messages in logs etc. Other basic things like it was working before I did
this, or it stopped working after I installed this. also helps.

4. Once you've received a correct answer to your question, either from a
Microsoft employee, an MVP, or the community in general, please reply that
the solution has been answered. This step is important, since it lets other
people benefit from your posts.

Thank you
Russ

646 (if decimal and a windows error number) means you are booting into safe

My point is that isn't enough to go on.
Your original post

I just Googled Error 646
and I found a ton of possible solutions.

If you are using a Third party Firewall
Like McAfee and some others have
Have you tried disabling it and then tried the updates?

This is just one of the many suggestions I found using Google
Thanks

Let me add one more point to the good points Russ makes below: be sure
your message is well-written, in good standard English, without errors
in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and usage.

A message like the one above is so filled with errors that I, like
many of us here, won't take the trouble to try to figure out what it
means.

Ken,
That's a big demand from people like me....

I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time
and you want me to spell and have good grammar also?
And make sense? Sorry I can't even do that LOL

English is not the native language of everyone who posts in this newsgroup.
It may not have been perfect English but it was understandable.

"Demand" is much too strong a word. I want you, and everyone else, to
do his best. None of us is perfect, and for some people here, English
isn't even their native language. But if you don't at least try, your
messages are likely to be unintelligible.

And make sense? Sorry I can't even do that LOL

Russ

You do fine.

English is not the native language of everyone who posts in this newsgroup.

Certainly true, and I am much more accepting of not-so-good English
from someone to whom English is a second language. In almost every
case, someone who posts here to whom English is a second language can
write English much better than I could write his language. That makes
me jealous of his writing skills.

Is English not Alice's native language? That's possibly the case, but
I doubt it.

It may not have been perfect English but it was understandable.

To you, perhaps. But not to me.

And one more point--the most important point of all: if someone posts
a message here looking for help, the chances of his getting the help
he needs are much greater if the message is written in a way that the
greatest number of people can understand it, and the chances of
someone misunderstanding it are minimized.
