Vista Ultimate Extras - Where are they.

D

David Edward Ford

Once again I've been taken for a complete fool. I believed the marketing
hype.

Microsoft is not making good on its promise to deliver Extras - downloadable
software that's available only to Vista Ultimate users. The add-ons were to
be one of a handful of features that separated the $399 Ultimate from the
$239 Home Premium.

But after releasing three Extras in January, then a beta of a fourth the
next month, the feature seemed forgotten by Microsoft. And it remains
forgotten or so it seems.

When will I ever learn????

Microsoft are fanatical about software piracy - and rightly so, it's theft.
But a company that charges a customer for services (never to be delivered)
may be breaking a few laws as well.

You were not fooled at all.. you decided to buy the version that contained
all features.. not only can you get the benefit of media center, but you can
also fax and scan, and make your system safe with BitLocker encryption..

LANGUAGE PACKS???

HAHAHA!

Jesus, I know those extra £'s I spent were worth it when I have the option
to install 20 more languages that I'll never download.

I mean, my god, do you realise how funny it is that you used that as an
example?

...and make your system safe with BitLocker encryption..

Be VERY careful with that axe, Eugene.

I call it "botlocker", because once malware infects that system (and
Bitlocker does nothing to help prevent this), you'll have far more
difficulty, bordering on impossibility, on cleaning it up.

Run the infected OS, the malware's "live" before you start.

Run some other off-HD OS, and Botlocker locks the bots in.

time.. quite the team, eh..

Just as I suspected. I have been taken for a fool judging by the
microsoft reply. Ultimate extras were a major hype in advertising this
particular edition of Vista. I need not quote the official ms advert,
suffice to say I have been "had".

And to those that replied with "bitlocker encryption" and and "media centre"
these can been found in other versions of vista. When I buy a car, I want
the wheels included.

David;
While I am disappointed there are not more frequent extras, I know of
nothing that Microsoft said that promised them more frequently.

Hopefully Ultimate Extras is not the only feature someone uses to
justify spending more for Windows Vista Ultimate.
If that is the case, there are probably better options especially
since details of exactly what the extras will be remains unknown.

Go and have a look at the official advertising for vista ultimate and the
many words used to describe "ultimate extras". i strongly suspect that it
induced many to buy this version of vista.

Or am I alone in being felt let down ???

If I am i will shut up and keep quiet.

David;
Perhaps I missed it but I do not see a reply from Microsoft in this
thread.

Reads to me the OP's idea of (never to be delivered) is comming the
end of summer. (but I wont hold my breath)

I also hope that no one would buy Ultimate just for the Extras

That was funny. ;-)

But, it is ridiculous how Microsoft and even Bill
hyped the Extras and they really haven't delivered.

Guys

My guess is that they have more important issues which may not have been
fully apparent prior to the RTM launch.. we could yet be surprized too. if
Yahoo are taken over by MS, we will get a free Yahoo Messenger.. maybe.. ;-)
