Vista time waster

I've used Vista since a few weeks after it came out, having jumped straight
from Windows 98 with a new system, and have followed the debate about whether
it's any good with interest. I started off full of hope until I found I
couldn't open one of my regular programs. Never mind I discovered a work
around, I had to right click and run as Administrator and it worked. What's a
few extra clicks among friends? Then of course every time I did anything to
change settings I was asked for my Password. But this is for my security so
what's a few more clicks to me if that's the price I must pay. Then for some
reason unknown to the whole of the computing world Windows Mail refused to
open a second time. So what, I could always open the Task Manager and close
it down causing Explorer to re start and then log on again. It's only a few
more clicks. ( I exaggerate here as what I do is minimise Windows Mail so it
never actually closes. Clever eh) Then the Progress Bar dialog box which
appears when you Delete/Recycle or Rename refused to close down without
clicking away at the old Task Manager again. The computing world was baffled
once more.
Why do I still get all these intractable problems with what is supposed to
be the pinnacle of computing excellence based on years of experience gained
with earlier Operating Systems?

With no more specificity on your problem, my guess is that you have clicked
once too often on the task manager terminating a process that you have no
idea about and have corrupted, ummmm maybe your mail data base??? The
computer world remains baffled as do I.

No I didn't install over Windows 98 I had a fresh start with a new computer
more than a year ago now and the specs more than adequate for Vista.
I've just about resigned myself to re installing Vista when I get the time.
I'm well backed up with Carbonite and I keep the back up disks prompted by
Live OneCare so in theory it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Most commentators think the problems are cause or originate from my Firewall
or Virus checker although it doesn't cure the problems if I turn them off.
Thanks for your interest and if you have any ideas I'd be pleased to see them

Try and think about when this first started happening. What changed on your
system or what you changed and/or installed that may be causing this
problem. SP1 perhaps? also, because you mentioned Windows Mail brings to
mind about the Virus Software you have installed and running. There are a
few known issues with some Antivirus programs that's causing havoc on
Windows Mail and others. It's the option of scanning Incoming and Outgoing
mail and this needs to be disabled.
