Sure, I'll phrase the question for him...
it what he really wanted to say;

Why the fukk does it take so gawddam long to delete/move/copy
local files and delete/move/copy files across a network?

Ok, is there a question here?

I guess it's rhetorical .... "why would anyone in their right mind use
Vista?".

Close but no banana. He didn't mention anything about trying to do it across
a network, so we'll have to assume it's on his Vista box itself.

Try disabling your "Windows Search" service temporarily (you will have to
reboot after doing so as it cannot be stopped). and see if that fixes it. I
had a problem where deleting files essentially locked up the system and the
indexer service was running amok.

And how did you infer that I was in my right mind? :)

I had to buy a new laptop. Not wanting to put up with Dell's 'support' any
longer - I went with Toshiba and Vista came with. So it would appear that I
leaped from the frying pan into the fire.
