2. Microsoft Office 2003/2007 shortcuts wont open from the "recently opened
programs list" in the Start menu. No response. These type of shortcuts only
open from the start menu in the Office from the office folder or the Desktop.

3. DirectX Diagnostic Tools (dxdiag) stops working when dxdiag is run and
attempts to access DirectShow (test dxdiag does on start of program). DxDiag
says “DxDiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing
DirectShow the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass
DirectShow this time?â€
If I click ‘Yes’ DxDiag appears to run normally. If I click ‘No’ DirectX
Diagnostic Tool crashes.

And if you arent an authorized tester, you shouldnt be installing the Vista
SP1 Beta since you arent authorized to do so, and you wont be given any
support if something goes wrong.

However, if you are in fact an authorized tester, by posting information
from Vista SP1 here is a violation of your NDA, which is taken very
seriously.

I've installed Vista SP1 Beta (on Windows Vista Home Premium), It hasn't
resolved the following 3 issues:

It's probably because none of these issues are explicitly fixed in Service
Pack 1. SP1 only fixes a limited set of confirmed and solved problems. It
doesn't fix every problem that a user experiences.

Since you are getting an access violation in both dxdiag and ehRecvr.exe,
I'm suspecting there may be a conflict with a DLL or driver version.
Examining the dumps should soon reveal the culprit. This would be difficult
for the typical end-user, however. If you are not experienced in debugging,
maybe you have someone local who can read memory dumps? They may be able to
help. Otherwise, send the dumps to Microsoft for analysis via Control Panel,
System Maintenance, Problem Reports. If Microsoft get enough dumps from
other users experiencing the same problem, they will post a solution.

If you think it is an SP1-specific issue, you should report it to the SP1
newsgroup on the Connect site.

Hope it helps a bit,

This is something you definitely want to post in the Vista SP1 beta
newsgroup or report as a bug since it sounds like its specific to the beta
itself. Vista SP1 uses a different kernel from Vista RTM which most of us
are so it makes it difficult to really diagnose the problem.

R

Rick Rogers

I wouldn't have expected SP1 to resolve any of them.

(1) is an issue with Happauge. That card isn't supported in Vista by them.
If the manufacturer doesn't, don't expect Microsoft to.

(2) is a file association issue, try running a repair of your MS Office
product.

(3) Could be corrupt dx files, or a video driver issue. Again, this isn't
what the SP is about. Run sfc scannow from an elevated command prompt and
install the most recent distribution of your video card drivers that are
certified for Vista.

If any of these appeared after installing SP1 beta, file a bug report on
connect and then remove the beta if you do not want to deal with the issues.

If the service pack didn't "solve" the issues it's pretty obvious that
the OP had those issues already, i.e. they are absolutely nothing to do
with the Beta, therefore they are VISTA issues, but since you as senior
know nothing around these parts, well apart from Urban that is, cannot
answer them you attempt once again to discourage the poster.

How you figure that, if it "Hasn't resolved" these issues is it not
likely that the issues were there already and therefore quite
unconnected with the Beta?
