Vista RC1 & new computer build

Hi All:
I have ordered the best Intel motherboard & a Core2 Duo E6600 processor
and wanted to try Vista O.S. on the new build before installing a Media
Center 2005 O.S. & I have a few questions about compatibility.
1. Can I install the O.S. on a new hard drive and then add another hard
drive to the system already containing only media center recorded movies if I
use either the 32 or 64 bit Vista RC1?
2. If this new computer is networked with my existing computer with an
onboard LAN, will the chipset software that comes with the motherboard work
with Vista? I couldn't find any special Vista LAN software on the Intel site.
3. Does Vista RC1 need the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
that is normally needed for the motherboard when installing XP or will it run
ok without the special INF software usually needed?
4. Does anyone have a suggestion for a dial-up internet provider that is
compatible with Vista RC1? I currently have MSN Dial up and surprisingly
their Tech Dept. says:

"This is Sherry and I understand that you would like to know if there is a
MSN version that is compatible with Windows Vista. I realize your cause for
concern.

MSN is not yet compatible with Windows Vista. However, we have confirmed
this with our Product Team and are currently evaluating it. Your concerns are
very important, and we evaluate comments to prioritize future features and
improvements. We have forwarded this to the appropriate department for
further review and consideration. Please know that we are working hard to
update MSN Internet Access and better serve your needs. Have a nice day!" I
am going to need internet access to fully install Vista RC1 and would
appreciate any input as to what internet provider you might suggest.

Hi,
1. Can I install the O.S. on a new hard drive and then add another hard
drive to the system already containing only media center recorded movies
if I
use either the 32 or 64 bit Vista RC1?

I don't see why not, the drive simply contains data files.
2. If this new computer is networked with my existing computer with an
onboard LAN, will the chipset software that comes with the motherboard
work
with Vista? I couldn't find any special Vista LAN software on the Intel
site.

The drivers needed may already be in Vista, but if not XP ones usually work.
In the end, the party responsible for supplying drivers is the manufacturer.
3. Does Vista RC1 need the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
that is normally needed for the motherboard when installing XP or will it
run
ok without the special INF software usually needed?

This is a question for Intel. They should be able to tell you if the board
is Vista-compatible or not.
4. Does anyone have a suggestion for a dial-up internet provider that is
compatible with Vista RC1? I currently have MSN Dial up and surprisingly
their Tech Dept. says:

Nope, other than don't use one that installs software on your system like
MSN, AOL, etc. Instead, get one that gives you the connection number and
account information, then create your own connection.

Not surprised that MSN does not yet work with Vista.

Hi Rick:
Thanks for your time & effort replying to my questions. It surely is
appreciated. The solution for the internet access is VERY helpful.........I
had forgotten that was all that was needed to get on the internet and will
see if Tucson has a provider that can supply the connection! As to the LAN
software, I'll see if it works right after the O.S. install and if not, try
loading the LAN software from the motherboard DVD. I'm still not sure about
the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility that is supposed to be
installed in XP before any windows drivers are installed. I guess I can try
Vista without it and if it doesn't work, I imagine it won't take a Core2 Duo
long to re-install the O.S. and then I can try it with the Chipset Utility.
Again......many thanks!

Hi Rick:
Thanks a lot for your time and effort answering my questions, it surely is
appreciated. Your solution to the internet access was VERY helpful. I had
forgotten the old days when I set up the connection thru windows.........duh!
Hopefully I will be able to find an internet provider in tucson that can
hook me up. As to the LAN software, I guess I can see if it works with the
Vista software and if not go ahead and try the LAN software on the
motherboard DVD. I'm still not sure about the install of the Intel Chipset
Software Installation Utility required for use in XP. I'll have to try VISTA
without it and if it doesn't work right and I have to re-install VISTA and
load the Utility, it shouldn't take long for a Core2 Duo to re-install VISTA!

One thing in your favor is that it is highly doubtful that any new Intel
boards supporting the core2 duo processor would not be Vista compatible.
They'd be cutting their own throat. I suspect you'll find that Vista will
run and connect without anything special from Intel.
