MSN Premium Install with RC1

After a lot of grief, I now have MSN Premium installed on RC1.

With Beta 2 (5384), it worked fine. I got into problems with the later builds.

Before installing MSN, disable UAC.

I still got my usual OCX error.

I right clicked the MSN installer icon, clicked properties and changed
compatibility to Windows XP (I don't know if that really helped or not
because that didn't work previously) but then the application installed on
RC1. You will still get a compatibility warning when opening MSN (which of
course you can turn off).

While I had the UAC disabled, I also installed the new RC1 version of Avast
and had no driver issues as I had seen reported on some sites.

MSN Premium is not compatible with Vista. MSN promises to fix this by
release date.

Well,

I don't know why it won't work for you. I was given these instructions by a
Microsoft Support Technician. We worked on this for weeks. Even MSN didn't
suggest these steps.

You did indeed turn off UAC before installation? That was the turning point
for me..

Yes, it is still not completely compatible but I can now use it without
incident.

Also, I believe you have to reboot before UAC protection is
fully turned off.

Yes I did and rebooted also. Tried with XP compatibilty 2-3 times with no
luck, however I figured I would play around a bit. I changed compatibilty
mode to Win2000 and it installed just fine.....

I'm sorry
i was replying to an OLD post and am unsure what the RC1 refers to.
I am just so frustrated in my search for a solution to my problem. I
have been trying for 2 weeks to get this resolved and thought perhaps
adding my inquiry to an OLD post-might bring some current answers. If i
posted in the wrong area-i appologize. I am getting bleary eyed
searching online for solution.

RC1 = Vista Release Candidate 1.
That was released in the fall of 2006, I believe.

According to MSFT employees MSN works fine with all versions of Vista, so
you must be doing something wrong. ;^)

My advice is after you rebuild your system try installing MSN again. It
worked for me.
