Internet Access

On a brand new machine, Asus P5B Dluxe WiFi motherboard, Core 2 Duo CPU,
Vista RC1 installed yesterday, my LAN is working fine. The two other
machines on the network, both Vista RC1, access the internet without
difficulty. This one successfully pinged to exterior addresses, but cannot
access the internet with IE 7, timing out at attempt to any URL.

Did install Intel P965 chipset drivers & , as I said, Lan works perfectly.

Any suggestions?

Well there's lots that can be tried. Off the top of my head:

1. Double and triple check all the network and firewall settings. It's
amazing how one can sometimes overlook the obvious.

2. Remove the device from Device Manager, reboot and let Windows re-detect
it.

3. Pop in another hardware device and use it instead.

Thxs for your response. Strongly agreee with 2nd sentence of Point 1.

Did test network numerous times. There is currrently no software firewall
nor AV program. Just finished OS installation plus chipset drivers &
acoustics. Next step: internet access to download Norton Internet Security,
beta for Vista.

Did uninstall LAN drivers. They self reinstall w/o even rebooting. If by
'hardware device you mean a NIC, no such thing around, the one I have is five
year old or older & would not work with Vista, I'm pd sure.

However, will try this: Disable LAN, enable onboard WiFi & try to get out.
Shall be back.

Tried to get the WiFi going. Was not easy, but finally got it to work.
Incredible, but, trying to get that way onto the internet causes the same
problem. Timing out, not being able to connect.

My hunch is that something in the sequence of chipset & Lan drivers is not
right. Asus claims the board to be 'Vista ready'. However, its executables,
uswed to install the drivers usually stop, not accepting any OS, except
previous versions of Window. Win Vista then tries to override it & sometimes
succeeds, sometimes resulting in 'unspecified error'. So, at the end you're
not really sure all is installed properly.

Their tech support is not yet geared for Vista at all.

Any suggestions?

OK, problem solved!

Looking through other entries on this site, I found one guy, having a NIC
from Yukon, having solved his problem. My mother board (Asus P5B Deluxw
WiFi) has two LAN ports controlled by Yukon Ethernet controllers.

Following his procedure, my problem dis appeared.

This is the procedure:

Go into device manager and open Network Adapters. For each of the two Yukon
Ethernet controllers click the Properties tab & select Advanced.
Make sure that
IPV4 checksum offload,
TCP checksum offload (IPV4) &
UDP checksum offload (IPV4)
are 'disabled'.

Thxs for yuour help. Peter K
