vista power plans

I would like for my computer to switch automatically from balanced or high
performance to battery saver when I pull the AC plug. Seems like a logical
request. I don't want to go in and modify the battery operation options for
the two plans; I'd have to rejigger everything if I actually needed high
performance when I was on battery.

If there's a way to change power plans when I change to or from battery, I
haven't been able to find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It won't automatically switch plans. As you have discovered you can
"jigger" the plan in question so that it has the desired effect (I.e.
settings) when on battery.

To handle the case where you want full power (even when running on battery)
clone the profile you like, edit the profile you're currently running on.
When you switch to battery the default profile will cut everything back,
however you can quickly switch which profile you're using by clicking once
on the battery icon in the system tray (if it's not showing you can right
click on the system tray and select notification icons and have it shown)
and picking the profile to use (no need to go into control panel/power/yada
yada) - I.e. you'd pick your cloned profile.

Hope this helps.
