I'd say Mac OS was less stable than a well configured XP system. Kernel
panics seem to happen more often than STOP errors. Application stability is
about the same.

I've not seen a single STOP error in a year of Vista on this machine.

Mac is much better and more secure (and will continue to improve). Unlike MS
OSs, it's designed for the era of MySpasce and Flickr, not for Lotus 123 and
oldware (but will run them perfectly well if you need this too)!

I'd say they are about the same today.

However, the Mac has never been "still more stable", only in the last 3
or 4 years has it become as stable as XP or 2000. Mac OS prior to X
was a sick joke, and OS X before 10.2 was nothing to get excited about.
10.2 was the first truly useable and complete version. Before that
they were basically betas.

I've been using OS X since 10.0 - well, trying anyways, you couldn't
really use 10.0 for much of anything.

What kind of marketing drivel have you been reading? OS X is based on
35 year old Unix, with 20 year old Next Step bolted on top of that.

There is no OS on the planet right now that was "designed for the era of
MySpace and Flickr" - it would have to be an OS designed in the last 3
years.

Since when does OS X run Lotus 123?

Sheesh - kids!

Before that they were basically betas.

You mean a beta like the current Vista RTM 6.0.6000 beta that MS is selling
for $$$$$. It has serious problems and is riddled with many bugs that won't
get fixed even after SP1 is released later this year. The current "final"
Vista release is not even comparable to the stability of RC versions under XP
(and earlier MS OSs); I would call it a Beta 3.

Google Desktop Search wins in terms of speed (especially when searching
Outlook e-mails) and it indexes much more than the default Windows Indexer.
Windows is now slower searching non-indexed files and folders than the
original Windows Me and Windows XP SP1 hard disk search. What a shame!

Haven't used Vista but OS X is much better in my opinion than XP. I
have had this machine since it was released and had to re-install
Windows about four times on it. I have used Mac OS for about 10 years
and have never had to re-install the OS. OS X is way better than nine
and those before. I think my next home computer will be a Mac Pro
running Leopard when it comes out. It's all a matter of personal
choice however. Unbuntu Linux runs great on this PC so I might hose
Windows and use that on it for using the Internet.

No. I use XP Pro x64, Vista Ultimate x64, and OS/X (Intel) and all are very
stable. Use the one of your choice that is the best fit for your needs.

I also use XP Pro SP2 dual booted with OS/X on my MacBook Pro and that is
stable also.
